Abstract

The European Union allows the manufacture of aromatic and appetite stimulating material of natural origin for inclusion into animal feed. Thus Agriton, which is responsible for EM in Holland and its neighboring countries has developed EM bokashi, which consists of natural ingredients. This has aromatic and appetite stimulating substances, which have been well accepted as feed additives in Holland, with the approval of the Dutch authorities. Agriton also has developed a herbal extract with EM for use in animal feedings. This contains lactic acid bacteria, which too has been approved by the authorities. Hence, EM is widely used in Holland with very successful results. The presentation highlights the program currently undertaken in Holland to promote EM, along with a case study on a dairy farm, where the use of EM has increased organic matter contents and pH of soils, resulting in greater productivity.
