Abstract

The EM Research Organization of Nanjing, China was established in 1995 to develop programs on agriculture, waste management and training. The projects initiated have borne very fruitful results. The treatment of garbage in Guangzhou with EM has reduced the smell significantly. The quality of the wastewater has improved with BOD and COD reduced by approximately 70 - 80%. The program on training of personnel has borne fruitful results. Over 100 trainees have graduated from the Training Center since its inception in 1997. The concept adopted is to use EM in all activities of the centre, thereby illustrating the usefulness through practice. The most recent development has been the incorporation of EM in traditional Chinese medicine. A product termed EM fire has been developed which was tested on rats. This product controlled cholesterol and triglycerides in rats, while promoting the presence of Riboproteins. There were no adverse effects and the benefits were attributed to the antioxidant properties of EM. The presentation highlights these activities in relation to the projects of EMRO China.
